The
Downtown Newark Partnership is a private/public partnership
dedicated to the economic enhancement of downtown Newark. The
Partnership has created a unique environment in which the City of
Newark, businesses, residential communities, and the University of
Delaware can work together toward a common goal: THE ONGOING
ENHANCEMENT OF MAIN STREET with mutual benefits.
A
seventeen-member policy board governs the Partnership. The Board
provides direction to each of the Partnership's five working
committees: Merchants', Design, Economic Enhancement, Special
Events and Parking; and charts the course for downtown
enhancement. The Committees bring together leaders from broad
range of industries to ensure that downtown Newark remains an
active spirited place to live and do business.
Under
the leadership of the Board of directors, the Downtown Newark
Partnership has been designated by the National Trust for Historic
Preservation as a National Main Street Community for 2002.
The
Board meets the second Thursday of the month at 7:00 p.m. in the
City Manager's Conference Room, second floor, Municipal Building,
220 Elkton Road. All Downtown Newark Partnership meetings are open
to the public.
