Events Committee

Mission

The Special Events Committee provides a full calendar of special events to promote Downtown Newark and its businesses. Since the start of the DNP in 1998, the Events Committee has been working together on existing events and adding new and exciting events for Downtown Newark.  However, for each event, leaders and responsibilities specific to the event have emerged.  At this point, each event has its own individual group of dedicated volunteer workers along with a unique set of responsibilities and tasks for the event to run smoothly.  For this reason, the Events Committee is now composed of several Ad Hoc Planning Committees.  The Ad Hoc Committees are:

·         Restaurant Week (late January)

·         Wine & Dine Downtown (March)

·         AZD?DNP 5K Walk/Run (April)

·         Food & Brew Fest (July)

·         Taste of Newark (September)

·         Main Street Mile (October)

All members of the Committees are considered part of the Partnership’s Events Committee for the year that they participate.   The separate committees will have unique committee members and meeting times.

Other familiar Newark events, such as Newark Nite, Community Day, Spring Concert Series, Halloween Parade and Winterfest are handled by the City of Newark’s Parks and Recreation Department with assistance from the DNP.   The Parks & Recreation Department has a dedicated group of volunteers and a capable staff.  Their help allows the Partnership staff and Ad Hoc Committees to focus on creating new events to supplement the existing calendar.
